What Is OLAPLEX?

You’ve likely heard of OLAPLEX thanks to the brand’s excellent reputation in the haircare industry. But if you’re still wondering ‘what is OLAPLEX?’ and ‘what does OLAPLEX do?’ – you’ve come to the right place.

OLAPLEX is a luxury haircare brand, founded by chemists, committed to repairing damaged hair. Whether bleach, heat styling, brushing and tugging, sunlight, weather changes, or simply general wear and tear have resulted in your hair being desperately in need of some TLC – the OLAPLEX range has been designed to nourish and restore hair to its full health. From shampoos and conditioners to oils and masks – you’ll find all you need to know about how best to treat your hair with the OLAPLEX collection, here.

What Does OLAPLEX Do For Your Hair?

One of the major reasons for OLAPLEX’s runaway success has been the science underpinning each of the products in the range. Established by chemists well-versed in the actual requirements of damaged hair, the brand’s patented technology is focused on repairing broken or damaged hair bonds. You might know that it’s scientifically proven to repair and strengthen hair – but what does OLAPLEX do to your hair? The products work by reconnecting broken or damaged hair bonds. Hair fibres are made up of the protein keratin, and held together by hydrogen, salt, and disulfide bonds. When the latter breaks, hair appears dry, frizzy, brittle, and generally damaged.

Every single OLAPLEX product includes their patented bond-building technology – which penetrates hair of all types at a molecular level. The wonder molecule – Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate (quite the mouthful) – is responsible for repairing the broken bonds and restoring hair to its most gorgeous potential. The process of re-linking ensures smoother, stronger, nourished hair, and gets your hair looking and feeling significantly healthier.

So, is OLAPLEX good for your hair? Yes – that’s why it’s such a big deal. As a one-stop shop for overhauling your hair health, fans of the brand tend to be an extremely loyal bunch – and with beautiful hair, to boot.

Is OLAPLEX Okay to Use Every Day?

Only you can know what works best for your hair – how often to wash it, the shampoos and conditioners that work most effectively for your hair type, and so on. (You might find our guide to choosing the right OLAPLEX products for you useful at this point.) Once you’ve honed your routine, you’ll realise you probably don’t need to use all of your OLAPLEX products everyday, but it is okay to use some of the range daily if you want to.

Whilst you might find washing your hair with the No.4 Shampoo Bond Maintenance (and No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner) everyday works for you – it’s not a hard and fast rule across the whole shampoo range.

You shouldn’t use the No.4C Bond Maintenance Clarifying Shampoo daily. That’s because it targets impurities deeply – removing build-up, excess oil, and pollutants from the hair and scalp, if you use it daily it will overly-strip your hair. Similarly, the OLAPLEX No 4P Blonde Enhancer Toning Shampoo (with the No. 5P Blonde Enhancer™ Toning Conditioner) is for occasional use, not everyday. Designed to neutralise unwanted yellow tones for brighter, softer, more manageable blonde hair, such a high concentration pigment is not necessary everyday – even for the blondest blonde.

If you don’t wash your hair daily but need something to keep oil at bay – try the No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo. A benzene-free dry shampoo, the formula features ingredients like rice starch – commonly found in skincare products – to absorb oil and improve hair volume, whilst supporting a healthy scalp.

Although you may not wash your hair everyday (or every other day, or every other other day) you’ll probably still need to style it. We love the No.7 Bonding Oil for its weightless, nourishing properties, ideal for styling and repairing your hair, from root to tip. The highly concentrated formula works to increase the shine, strength, and hydration of the hair, as well as minimising frizz and flyaways.

Even better is its UV and heat protection (up to 232 degrees centigrade) – which means that even if you use your straighteners daily, your hair’s protected. Similarly, the No.6 Bond Smoother is a repairing styling creme that can be used everyday to perfect your hair. Working to strengthen, hydrate, moisturise, and speed up your blow-dry time, this formula soothes and eliminates frizz for up to 72 hours.

It probably goes without saying that intensive treatments like the No. 3 Hair Perfector aren’t for everyday use. This at-home hair treatment should be applied a maximum of 3 times per week to repair hair follicles and permanently rebuild dry, brittle strands – reversing signs of bleach and chemical damage, leaving hair feeling and looking visibly stronger.

All of that’s to say, yes – it is okay to use OLAPLEX everyday. So long as you’re using products from the range in the correct, recommended way, there’s no reason why OLAPLEX can’t be a staple of your everyday routine.
