Spent the weekend bingeing Our Planet and looking for a clean, vegan, eco-friendly beauty brand that delivers good-for-skin ingredients without compromising on the environment? Let UpCircle beauty serve as proof that the beauty industry really is trying to make a difference – the brand creates all of their products by sourcing reusable ingredients from London artisan coffee shops.
The idea of taking waste and turning it into effective, results-driven skincare products grew out of the brand’s founders’ concern for the environment, identified when brother-sister duo William and Anna realised just how much waste the coffee industry contributes… To put it simply, every year coffee grounds account for 500,000 tonnes of waste rotting in landfill. This produces methane gas, which is twenty times more damaging to the environment than carbon dioxide.
In addition to reducing waste, William and Anna also aimed to create beauty products that actually benefit skin, in addition to reducing environmental impact. The result is a range of nine products, including a luxe yet lightweight hydration serum, three exfoliating soap bars, and face and body scrubs that are boosted with essential oils to benefit different skin concerns. And what’s more, everything’s vegan, clean, cruelty-free, and 100% recyclable.
Like the ideal Sunday morning, the magic of these products starts with coffee – or rather, its exfoliating, brightening, and skin-softening capabilities (read more here) – it’s just as effective for the skin as it is to drink.
