For me, that particular time of the month plays havoc with my skin. When my hormones are raging, the cravings hit, the smallest irritation is a week-long catastrophe, and I am super emotional for at least a week beforehand. On top of this, leading up to and during the period cycle, my skin has a blip and I break out everywhere – with either under the skin bumps that are sore and painful to touch, breakouts along my cheeks and jawline, or a central blemish often right in the middle of my forehead.
I use some great clay masks and calming moisturisers that to some extent help to keep the breakouts at bay, but I knew I needed something more. I decided to ‘level up’ my skincare game and try some new serums – figuring that targeting my skin with the right active ingredients would be a good approach. BEAUTY BAY’s SkinHit serums had all the answers. Between the five they work to tackle blemishes, hyperpigmentation, and texture – basically everything my hormonal breakouts needed.
After double cleansing and toning, I apply two drops of the SkinHit Hydrating Serum. It’s light in consistency and absorbs easily – I just pat the serum into my skin. it might not seem an obvious thing to do, but one thing that has helped to save my skin is providing it with an extra dose of hydration. My skin immediately drinks this serum in, and the results are almost instantaneous with my skin looking plumper in minutes.
Following this I apply the SkinHit Soothing Serum, lightweight and blue in colour, this serum focuses on calming the skin so is ideal for any existing breakouts. It contains niacinamide and copper – perfect for healing skin (preventing scarring) and regulating sebum production.
One or two evenings a week I use the SkinHit Correcting Serum. It’s a concentrated exfoliating product, designed to target texture and help reduce signs of hyperpigmentation. I could feel the difference this made to my skin’s texture after just a few uses, especially in terms of smoothness – running my hands down my cheeks was a pleasure for once without feeling the usual bumps and dryness.
When I feel my first hormonal breakouts popping up, I start using the SkinHit Clarifying Serum. I either apply it directly to my skin or mix it with my night cream. Fighting blemishes, tackling pigmentation, and supporting blemish control, this powerhouse truly packs the benefits in and battles the spots lurking under my skin.
After that I apply my moisturiser, boosted with a few drops of the SkinHit Brightening Serum. Formulated to boost radiance, even out skin tone, and reduce the appearance of pigmentation (thanks to a concentrated dose of Vitamin C), this serum works wonders in restoring vibrance and luminosity to the skin.
This combination worked remarkably well when it came to tackling my personal skin concerns – and I love how easy they are to switch in and out of my routine depending on how my skin feels. I found that after regular use for a week (both day and night) my skin felt and looked hydrated, smooth, vibrant and clearer. For a skin type that has battled with acne, dark marks, and those inevitable under the skin bumps, this is the best it has looked in months. Using the SkinHit serums has helped to not just transform my skin but to keep it calm and healthy while my hormones are raging. The biggest test of the results came after applying my make-up. I had noticed that foundation would appear cracked and instantly dry on the skin but with the surge of benefits nourishing my skin, my foundation applied beautifully and was seamless on the skin.
