Everything you need to know about the Sand & Sky Australian Emu Apple Enzyme Powder Polish.
What is it?
A water-activated powder-to-foam formula which is packed with skin-brightening fruit enzymes to clear pores and remove dead skin cells. It’s a gentler (but just as effective) alternative to a traditional scrub – perfect for exfoliating sensitive skin, so you can expect smooth, glowy results– minus the irritation.
What does it do?
One of the first things you’ll notice after using this is its smoothing effect. All thanks to papaya fruit enzymes which gently slough away the patches of roughness and dead skin cells that give skin a dry or textured feeling. In removing dead skin cells, the enzymes also help to reveal fresher new skin cells, resulting in a clearer, brighter appearance – which antioxidants like vitamin C (from emu apple and pepperberry) contribute to. Meanwhile, nourishing jojoba and macadamia oils and anti-inflammatory fruit extracts help to soothe and protect skin.
How do enzymes work?
Offering a gentler and alternative form of exfoliation to physical scrubs or acids, enzymes work by breaking down the proteins that hold together dead skin cells. As the dead skin cells are removed, pores are unclogged, and rough texture is sloughed smooth. If your skin can’t tolerate acids or you’re unable to use them due to pregnancy or sensitivity issues, then enzymes are a great alternative – and unlike acids and scrubs, they can be used as frequently as every day without risk of irritation.
How do you use it?
Start by pouring about half a teaspoon of the powder into the palm of your hand. Add a few drops of water and rub your hands together until the mixture forms a foamy texture. Gently massage into your skin – spending about 15 seconds on each section or your face and avoiding the eye area – then rinse off with warm water.
The verdict:
I love using acids to exfoliate my skin, but over-using them really disrupts the pH balance of my skin and weakens my skin barrier – leading to dehydration and increased breakouts. At times like these I rely on enzymes to give me my exfoliation fix, while using ceramides and squalane to restore my skin. I love that this one is super gentle, and leaves skin feeling satisfyingly smooth, but without the tight, stripped feeling you get when you’ve overdone it! Once you lather the powder up in your palms it glides onto your face super smoothly, and the results are instant. Plus, it’s so quick and easy to use – it’s been a seamless addition to my routine.
