Alexx is the man responsible for her fierce eye looks and stage proof base makeup – and he just revealed his secrets to us.
On what inspires Lizzo's makeup...
“I pull inspiration from everywhere including nature and art, but more importantly the music.”
On how he ensures Lizzo's makeup lasts through singing/dancing/playing the flute...
“Matte makeup is crucial for stage. It lasts the longest and helps repel sweat. For our flute proof lip we usually use a liquid matte lip stick or I press an eye shadow over a lipstick so it doesn’t go anywhere.”
On the importance of touch-ups...
“During the show, there are 2 touch ups that last about 30 seconds to a minute each time. My focus is to blot sweat as much as possible and lightly powder the T-zone.”
On his stage makeup techniques...
“It changes completely – the spotlight that’s on her is not only so bright that it can wash her out, but it’s also a bit yellow, so contrast and shading are really important. The shades and depth on stage are very different than off stage, because they have to be visible in that light.”
On his makeup kit essentials...
“A great moisturiser, lashes, and a variety of eye shadow colors and textures.”
On how he preps skin before makeup...
“I like to ensure the skin is well hydrated and balanced.”
On his go-to inspirations...
“I don’t think too much about being current, I like to pull references of timeless makeup and timeless artists such as Diana Ross, Cher, etc. Being timeless is more of what I strive for.”
On his beauty motto...
“My objective with makeup is to inspire to explore and encourage people to express themselves, and maybe go out of their own comfort zone and ultimately HAVE FUN!”

“Hydration! Using a beauty oil and a highlighter that melts into the skin.”
On how to achieve the ‘A-list airbrushed’ complexion with makeup...
“Building a foundation is key. Start off easy and build as you go and always use a beauty sponge to blend.”
On touring must-haves...
“Lashes are super important, they really make a look pop and standout and it’s imperative to always remove makeup after a show.”
