If you really want to up your skincare game, technology is the way to go – especially when it comes to cleansing. Hands, flannels, and wipes may clean your face to an extent, but they’ll never be able to give the deep clean that a sonic cleansing device can. I’ve experimented with nylon bristled cleansing brushes in the past (bad idea) so have to admit I was a little skeptical when the Foreo Luna Mini 2 landed on my desk, but in the name of opening my mind and trying new things, I gave it a go. Fast forward two months and I’m a complete convert.
What is the Foreo Luna Mini 2?
A waterproof silicone facial-cleansing device which pulsates to gently exfoliate and make your cleanser work more effectively. It basically brings all the perks that of a professional facial (massage and exfoliation) into your bathroom.
How does it work?
Foreo is a brand that specialises in pro-level beauty technology so there’s some serious science behind this device. Via a combination of soft silicone bristles and sonic pulsations (8000 per minute to be precise), it cleverly cleanses and exfoliates skin, removing 99.5% of bacteria, dirt, makeup, and dead skin cells – far more than your hands and flannel are capable of. The sonic motion basically maximises the removal of build-up, while still being gentle (so it’s brilliant for sensitive skin types) – and there are eight different power levels, so you can dial the intensity up or down to suit your skin and its needs.
Is it hygienic?
Yep. The silicone is naturally resistant to bacteria, so unlike nylon cleansing brushes, you never have to replace it. All you need to do is give it a quick rinse after use.
How do you use it?
1. I start by removing the majority of my makeup with a micellar water before dampening my face and massaging in a cream or gel cleanser.
2. Once my face is covered, I wet the Luna Mini 2, turn it on, and start moving it slowly in circular motions across my face until the pulsations stop.
3. Once finished, I use a hot muslin cloth to gently remove any residue before continuing with the rest of my routine.
My verdict:
After a couple of months of use, my face definitely feels less congested – and the Luna Mini 2 has totally changed the way I cleanse. It forces me to clean my face for two minutes (which actually feels a lot longer than you’d think) and it reminds me to cleanse properly as well. The curved shape and double-sided surface make it easy to fit in and around the crevices of my face, so I find myself focusing on the corners of my nose, my jawline, and down my neck (all areas I realised I kind of neglect in a regular cleanse). On top of that, I’m getting all the benefits of exfoliation, but without the irritation I usually get from physical scrubs. I love exfoliation, but I’m also super aware that using abrasive scrubs isn’t ideal for my sensitive and blemish prone skin. What I love most about the Foreo Luna Mini 2 is that I feel like I’ve exfoliated and given my skin a proper deep clean, but without the side effects. It’s basically like a scrub, but gentler. Thanks to the sonic vibrations it exfoliates deeply, but due to the soft silicone it can’t cause the damage and tears that most exfoliants would (win, win).
