Created and imagined by three South Asian sisters, Aleena, Aleezah, and Naseeha, CTZN Cosmetics aims to ensure that all skin tones, undertones, and genders are considered.
Focusing on lip products in every shade of nude, their hero product, the NUDIVERSAL Lip Duo is available in 25 shades of nude to suit anyone and everyone’s complexions. Their Lipstroke lip liners, eye shimmers, and more are just as worthy of finding their place in your makeup bag too.
We caught up with Aleena, Aleezah, and Naseeha to find out more about the brand. Get ready to shop!
What is CTZN Cosmetics about?
“CTZN Cosmetics is a cruelty-free, vegan-friendly makeup brand centred around inclusivity. Every product collection guarantees a perfect match for every skin tone – whether it is 25 shades for all, or 1 shade proven to be universally flattering. The brand aims to offer consumers every staple they would need in their makeup kit – but in their perfect shade.”
What inspired you to create CTZN Cosmetics?
“The co-founders are 3 South Asian sisters who grew up in Los Angeles and were raised in Dubai. Aleena, Aleezeh and Naseeha often felt underrepresented by the beauty industry and had to constantly mix shades to find the perfect matches for their complexions and undertones. They took matters into their own hands by creating an authentic brand with a mission to empower citizens of the world to feel truly seen and considered. The brand now offers the beauty industry’s widest nude lip collection, highlighting that nude is not just beige, but unique to your complexion and lip tone. The NUDIVERSAL Lip Duo has won the Allure Best of Beauty award for ‘Best Neutral Lipstick’ two years in a row, with many celebrity fans including Demi Lovato, Lizzo and Hilary Duff.”
What’s the most important thing about CTZN Cosmetics to you?
“Our deeper ‘why’ – the reason we created this brand –is to enhance cultural awareness through beauty. Every NUDIVERSAL shade is named after a city we visited around the world, every LIPSTROKE shade is a number 1-5 in a different language, in hopes that our CTZNs effortlessly learn about other backgrounds in an extremely approachable manner.
We are most proud of our video segment on our website called the CULTUTORIAL: culture + makeup tutorial; you can learn about someone’s culture while they do their makeup routine! We’re proud to bring cultural awareness directly to your screen, especially in a time where travel and meeting new people is limited.”
What are your top tips for using your favourite CTZN Cosmetics products?
