What is colloidal oatmeal?
Colloidal oatmeal is an ingredient derived from finely ground oats. It’s an emollient, which means that when features within skincare products, it helps to soften and soothe skin.
How does colloidal oatmeal work?
You’ve probably heard of the skin barrier – which is responsible for keeping moisture in your skin and for keeping irritants like pollution and bacteria out. If the skin barrier is damaged then it can’t properly perform this function – which leads to dryness and sensitivity, and in extreme cases to conditions like dermatitis. Colloidal oatmeal basically replicates the effect of the skin barrier by forming a protective layer over the skin that keeps moisture in and irritants out. Skin will feel better hydrated and will be less sore and itchy – plus over time, the skin barrier will be restored.
Why should I use colloidal oatmeal?
Because colloidal oatmeal will help to support your skin barrier, it will improve hydration levels and reduce sensitivity – so if you have sensitive skin, dry skin, or a skin condition like eczema or psoriasis, it’s a great ingredient to include in your skincare routine.
Where should I use colloidal oatmeal?
You can use products with colloidal oatmeal all over your face and body – the ingredient is typically found in moisturising products like creams, lotions, serums, and balms.
