There are few things that coconut oil is not capable of. Packed full of essential fatty acids, this humble oil is a go-to when it comes to hydrating skin and hair. Drier skin and hair types will particularly benefit from the use of coconut oil, thanks to its oily texture and intense moisturising capabilities. Although slathering yourself from head to toe in coconut oil might not be the one for you, there’s plenty of ways in which you can incorporate this beauty hero into your routine.
If you want to find out more about the oils you should be adding into your routine, then get the lowdown on castor oil, argan oil, and marula oil.
Intensely moisturises the skin
Coconut oil is packed with essential fatty acids, meaning that it hydrates, nourishes, and moisturises the skin. Simply apply as a body moisturiser or even apply to the face to give a hit of hydration to dry and dehydrated skin types. Be wary though – coconut oil is comedogenic, meaning that it can clog the pores and lead to breakouts, so avoid applying to your face if you suffer from spots.
Provides eczema relief
As well as being intensely nourishing, coconut oil is also a natural antibacterial, making it perfect for using if you suffer from eczema. Although it won’t cure your eczema, it will help to soften, repair, and soothe dry, cracked skin, giving you relief when you need it the most.
Deeply conditions hair
Just as coconut oil hydrates the skin, it’s also a must-have for conditioning hair. Either apply as a mask, smooth through the ends, or apply to the roots if you’re suffering from a dry, itchy, scalp – just watch out for product build-up!
Makes a great makeup remover
Oil attracts oil, as well as melting away makeup, making coconut oil a quick and easy makeup remover. Massage onto the skin to loosen makeup, dirt, and impurities, then wipe away using a warm face cloth. Make sure to follow with a second cleanse to ensure that the coconut oil doesn’t clog your pores.
Hydrates lips
If it’s good enough for your skin and hair, then it’s good enough for your lips too. For soft, supple, and hydrated lips that are never dry or cracked, simply apply coconut oil and let it do it’s thing.
Protects holiday hair
If you’re heading to the beach or spending a lot of time in the pool, make sure to pack some coconut oil in your beauty holiday stash. Simply apply coconut oil to the ends of the hair, which will stop it drying out with the chlorine and salt water. Thank us later.
Tames flyaways
Struggling to hold flyaways down? The coconut oil is the one. Simply smooth over the hairline (or any other areas where you’re experiencing flyaways) and they’ll stay in place all day long.
Cleans makeup brushes
The anti-bacterial element of coconut oil means that it’s a perfect match for cleaning your makeup brushes. Combine with equal parts soap, massage into the brushes, then rinse. The result? Clean, bacteria-free makeup brushes that are kind to your skin.
