We finally made it to 2024, which means it’s the perfect time to give our skincare shelves and makeup bags a major mix up. New year, new you? Searches for red lipstick, skin icing, and bobbed hair have all increased in the past few months, which is a certain sign that they’re set to trend in 2024. Elsewhere, expect to see even more skin barrier-related trends (it’s not going anywhere) and a whole new colour palette for the year. These are the top trends we predict will be big news in 2024.
1. Textured skincare
2023 saw a whole host of new textures and formulas in skincare, which is set to continue into 2024. From ‘cloud creams’ to milky toners, by the end of the year, you can expect to have a skincare routine that feels as good as it looks.
2. Skin icing
Go for a professional facial and you can guarantee it will incorporate some form of cryotherapy, but your everyday skincare routine is about to get the same treatment. From ice globe massage to chilled sheet masks, cold temperatures can help to reduce puffiness and soothe inflammation.
3. Grey-toned makeup
Thanks to the recent resurgence of love for 90s-style eye makeup, cool, grey-toned makeup is set to be one of 2024’s biggest makeup trends. Swapping out your warm-toned gold and brown eyeshdows for grey and silver ones instead is an easy way to jump on this trend.
4. Glowing skin
Glowing is always in, but a new rendition is taking off. Rather than using makeup to give skin a faux glow, 2024’s spin (unsurprisingly) sees skincare take over. Of course, it makes total sense, because a real glow (fueled by hydrating and brightening ingredients like hyaluronic acid and vitamin C) is always going to be better than a fake one.
5. Red lips & nails
Introducing a pop of colour to monochrome outfits with red scarves or socks was a big fashion trend in 2023 but in 2024 the trend is set to enter the beauty space, with red lips and nails back on trend.
6. Skin barrier ingredients
Yep, the skin barrier is still trending. In 2023 we heard a lot about how to restore your skin barrier and reduce skin sensitivity after years of overdoing it with acids and retinoids. This year, expect to see more about the ingredients that work the magic. Start stocking your routine with ceramide-rich serums, ectoin creams, and squalane-based oils.
7. Balletcore
Balletcore has emerged as an extension of the ‘clean girl’ look, and in 2024 it’s giving a delicate, feminine, ballet aesthetic. Think sleek buns, pastel pink lips, and satin hair accessories.
8. Bobbed hair
Bobbed hair isn’t exactly a new trend, but it’s set to be the hairstyle of 2024. The fact that there are now hundreds of different types of bobs, from blunt bobs and Italian bobs to curly bobs and layered bobs means that it’s now easier than ever to find a style that suits you.
